Dorasan Station at the DMZ
A symbol of reunification
Dorasan was built in hope, ready to link Seoul by rail to Pyongyang and beyond one day. The famous sign reading Pyongyang on the platform captures the wish for a reconnected peninsula that has not yet come.
What you see
You can walk onto the platform, see the immigration and customs area built for future cross border travel, and visit a small exhibition on the railway and the divided country. The scale of a real station with almost no passengers is striking.
Visiting on a tour
Dorasan Station is included on many full day and some half day DMZ tours, though not all, so check the itinerary. As with the rest of the DMZ, you cannot reach it independently and must come with an approved guided tour from Seoul. Allow a little time to take photos with the Pyongyang sign and to picture the day trains might finally run north again across a reopened border.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Dorasan Station famous?
It is the last railway station before North Korea, built to connect the two Koreas. Its empty platform and the sign to Pyongyang make it a powerful symbol of hoped for reunification.
Can you take a train from Dorasan Station?
No regular passenger trains cross the border into North Korea. The station is visited as a symbolic stop on DMZ tours rather than as a working international station.
Is Dorasan Station on every DMZ tour?
No. It is common on full day tours and some half day tours, but not all include it. Check your specific tour itinerary before booking.
